Dane County sheriff reported covering cameras after removal deadline passed
The June 5 statement distinguishes a reported end to the contract from equipment that had not been removed by the deadline.

The sheriff’s implementation account
In a June 5, 2026 official release, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office says it instructed Flock to remove all 26 cameras by May 31, the contract’s stated expiration date. The release says removal did not occur and that the office took steps to stop use and placed covers over the cameras. This is the sheriff’s published account of an implementation step, not an independent inspection of the equipment. [1]
Covering is a different event from removal
The release attributes the end of the contract to an April County Board vote. The original vote, notice and vendor response are not independently established here. The release does not establish eventual removal or data deletion. Sheriff Kalvin Barrett also expresses interest in another ALPR company; that intention does not establish a replacement purchase. The dated statement should therefore support a report about covering after the stated deadline, not a claim that all plate-reader technology was abandoned. [1]
