Our roadmap

A clearer view of local decisions.

We’re making public records about surveillance easier to find, understand and follow. Here’s what you can use today—and where the work goes next.

Use the research today

Explore 35 source-linked reports and a practical records-reading guide. Regional coverage includes the Upper Peninsula, northern Lower Michigan and Wisconsin. Berrien County is a separate comparative example.

  • Find your community

Start with a place, read what the records say, and check the original sources.

  • Follow a decision trail

See how proposals, approvals and payments connect—and where the record leaves questions open.

  • Make sense of a public record

Learn what a payment, meeting minute or policy can tell you—and what it cannot.

  • Follow research updates

Add this feed to a feed reader to see new and updated reports. It lists research updates, not alerts about changes to public records.

The next chapters

Where we’re going

These are our priorities, with room to learn as the research grows. No release date has been announced for new services.

  1. Growing the research

    More complete local stories

Bring more related records together so you can follow a proposal, an approval and the questions still unanswered.

  2. In development

    Briefs you can share

Concise, source-linked summaries for neighbors, newsrooms, libraries and community groups, with clear guidance for attribution and corrections.

  3. Planned · Not available yet

    Free alerts when records change

Follow selected public records in an RSS feed app, with a short explanation, the original source link and any meeting, decision or comment deadline stated in the record.

The first planned coverage is the Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin. RSS subscriptions will be free. We’ll explain which sources are covered and how often they’re checked when alerts become available.

  4. Longer term

    More communities, carefully

Extend the collection to more places and surveillance-related decisions while keeping sources easy to check and gaps in coverage clear.

What you can count on

  • Free to read

The research stays open. Optional support won’t buy earlier alerts or priority coverage.

  • Sources you can check

Follow the original record and see the limits of each claim.

  • Room for correction

Questions, missing context and sourced corrections help make the work more useful.
